Forty years after first released, the Nike Air Tailwind 79 Shoes are as relevant as ever. The low-topped silhouette has been updated with a myriad of premium materials; with a breathable mesh upper in dark obsidian being finished with suede overlays around the toe box, eyestays and heel counter. A sharp white leather swoosh decorates the lateral panels, echoing tones of the midsole and Nike embossing on the heel tab over a black leather panel. The 1:1 design used retains the same functional features that blew the original to popularity in the eighties, including the signature full-length Nike Air unit which provides lightweight cushioning. Additionally the black rubber outsole sees a waffle traction pattern for multi-directional tread.

The Tailwind 79 was released in 1979 for a limited amount of participants in the Honolulu Marathon, however the runners found the shoe so outstanding that a general release was immediately ordered (although it still sold out). The signature Air Unit paved the way for the future Air Max generations as well as countless other forms of running technology, driving both sportswear and streetwear forward.
